Dear Michael Bloomberg: What’s the point of food labels if nobody in NYC can read them?

Font Size:

Emperor Michael Bloomberg has worked diligently to free New Yorkers from the burden of making choices about tobacco, salt, trans fats, drinks containing high-fructose corn syrup, and whether or not to breastfeed babies. And his grateful subjects have spent all the free time they would’ve spent making such choices on much more productive pursuits.

Not among them: learning how to read and write.

CBS New York:

Nearly 80 percent of New York City high school graduates need to relearn basic skills before they can enter the City University’s community college system…

When they graduated from city high schools, students in a special remedial program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College couldn’t make the grade.

They had to re-learn basic skills — reading, writing and math — first before they could begin college courses.

No wonder they don’t realize Bloomberg is a fascist. They can’t even spell it.

Update: And there’s yet another fun layer of irony! By the time I read CBS New York’s story, it had been cleaned up… after Twitchy.com pointed out that it was riddled with spelling and punctuation mistakes. Hay, them’s the brakes.

Update: “Don’t look at the forest. Look at THAT tree!”

Update: “Why is Michael Bloomberg screwing with New Yorkers’ coffee orders? Because he can.
