NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — Donald Trump told The Daily Caller that he would like to see President Obama and congressional leaders locked up in a room until they reach a deficit reduction deal like the way the College of Cardinals select a new pope.

The Daily Caller asked Trump for his response to Bill Gates saying he wishes the U.S. political system was more like the U.K. to give President Obama “slightly more power.”

“We have our system. It’s been a good system. It’s right now very broken. You know, you look at the pope where they were in there for 24 hours and they came out with a winner. It was like, you’re just, you’re in there, you’re in the room, and then all of a sudden the white smoke starts pouring out. Maybe you just do that,” Trump said on Friday after his speech at CPAC.

“You lock them in the halls of Congress. You lock them up for a little while and you say, ‘Get something done.’ It’s amazing that they can’t come out with something but this is our system. It’s never worked as badly as it does right now, but nevertheless, this is our system.”
