Everybody’s going to die from drinking soda, says propaganda arm of thwarted nanny-stater

Courtesy of Bloomberg (the “news” organization, not the sawed-off fascist who owns it):

Sugary drinks and sodas may be associated with about 180,000 deaths a year worldwide, including 25,000 in the U.S., by exacerbating conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer, a study found.

The beverages raised deaths worldwide from diabetes by 133,000, from cardiovascular disease by 44,000 and from cancer by 6,000, according to the study presented today at a meeting of the American Heart Association in New Orleans.

“Sugary drinks are high in calories and sugar and low in nutrients, so drinking these beverages does not make you feel full and you continue to eat as normal,” Gitanjali Singh, the co-author of the study and a postdoctoral research fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, said in an e-mail. “These extra calories contribute to weight gain, which in turn contributes to cardiovascular disease and diabetes.”

Therefore, it is the role of government to make you stop drinking them. Also, shut up.

I’m with Kurt Schlichter:

Who the hell is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to presume that he has a say in what I or any other American chooses to drink? Of course, the answer for any self-respecting citizen is that he has no such say, and the proper response to him and his legion of petty fascist fan boys is the suggestion that they pucker up – and I will politely decline to identify what they should kiss.

Not me: Kiss my ass, Michael Bloomberg.

I stopped drinking that stuff about a year and a half ago because I chose to. I don’t need a mayor or a First Lady or anybody else telling me what to eat and drink. When they try, what you do is, you tell them to go to hell. It’s none of their business. Keep your laws off my body.

Isn’t it weird that the people who are so worried about people dying (from whatever cause is currently trendy) are also worried about overpopulation (to whatever effect is currently trendy)? It’s almost like they don’t think these things through before they devote their entire lives to screeching about them.
