A great thing happened musically during the first decade of the century. It was called emo music.

Now, intellectually this music may have been below subpar, but it was just so damn catchy and emotional. Who could hate it (even if you might have denied it to your friends)?

Today we mourn the loss of one of the bands that embodied what it meant to be emo, capturing the teen spirit of a pretentiously dark youth complaining about being white and middle class. My Chemical Romance tragically broke up last week.

How will we make it? Tragically, of course, by using this moment to indulge ourselves in the emo bands that got us through the early 2000s with by making us (or at least letting us) feel all existential and dramatic.

Let’s pour some out for our homies. We salute you, My Chemical Romance.
