Ashley Judd: “I’ve been raped twice, so I think I can handle Mitch McConnell”

I couldn’t help but notice that quote from Alex Pappas’ report on how Judd keeps making hints about her possible Senate run in Kentucky… without making any public appearances in Kentucky.

That quote comes from a Howard Fineman story at HuffPo, dated March 9:

Judd has some prominent backers in the state, led by Rep. John Yarmuth of Louisville; Christy Brown, whose family controls the Brown-Forman distilling fortune; and Brown’s son-in-law Matthew Barzun, the former ambassador to Sweden (and probable future ambassador to the United Kingdom), who was Obama’s finance chairman in the 2012 campaign…

Judd made her intentions clear at a private dinner last month at Brown’s Louisville home. Asked if she was tough enough to take on McConnell and the GOP national attack machine, Judd reportedly answered, “I have been raped twice, so I think I can handle Mitch McConnell.”

It’s been almost three weeks since Fineman reported that, but it’s the first I’ve heard about it. Did you guys know she had said that? Don’t you think it’s kind of notable that a possible candidate for office would say such a thing about her prospective opponent?

By way of contrast, look at the reaction to Pappas’ March 11 report about Judd’s 2010 claim that Apple customers are “financing mass rape.” According to our friends on the left, the Daily Caller wasn’t supposed to mention that because, well, shut up. Quoting Ashley Judd is sexist.

And they yelled at Steven Crowder for joking about Judd’s preoccupation with rape, claiming he made a “rape joke.” But he didn’t. He just said:

This just in: Ashley Judd just tweeted that purchasing Apple products is akin to rape… from her iPhone.

This just in: Whether or not you like that joke, it’s not a rape joke.

But now we’ve got Judd making yet another nutty comment about rape, which somehow went under the radar for weeks. The only controversy, if there ends up being any, will be that I dared to point out Howard Fineman quoting her. So what if she’s the one who said it in the first place?

I really hope she runs. I really hope she keeps talking.

And that’s sexist.

P.S. Oh well.

You’re welcome.
