A West Virginia driver’s education teacher has been arrested after he allegedly instructed a teenage girl to do doughnuts in a field and otherwise drive recklessly during a driving lesson.
WCHS-TV, the local ABC affiliate, has the story.
Police say Edwin “Bud” Anderson of South Charleston told the unnamed girl to drive into a grass field owned by the University of Charleston. In the field, he had her take swift turns in between some power poles.
Anderson has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and destruction of property.
The daring driver’s ed teacher told WCHS-TV that he was teaching the teenager how to navigate off-road because she is planning to enter the military and might benefit from the advanced training.
Another student who was also in the car, James Caraballo, backed Anderson’s version of events.
“I don’t see what the problem is, really,” Caraballo told WCHS. “They are trying to say he was contributing to the delinquency, but he was trying to teach them how to survive in case of danger.”
