The most normal/ likable/ cutest male character on Lena Dunham’s cringe-inducing HBO series “Girls” has left the building, Page Six reports.
Christopher Abbott, who played Marnie (Allison Williams’) on-off boyfriend Charlie on the first two seasons of the polarizing show, abruptly quit the series after reportedly “butting heads” with Dunham.
A source told the paper that Abbott didn’t “like the direction” things were going on the third season of the show. Or perhaps he just realized he didn’t want to be forever typecast as a boring, milquetoast character on a show with lots of gratuitous and awkward, floppy sex scenes.
“[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire ‘Girls’ cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show,” his rep confirmed to Page Six.
In case you are not familiar with “Girls,” it is a series about a group of self-indulgent, spoiled twenty-somethings living in New York City who neither know how to act like adults nor engage in socially or sexually normal behavior. It also features Dunham and/ or another character naked in nearly episode.
