It’s one thing to pump a team up with rah-rah speeches before a big game. It’s another to make an impact on a bunch of student-athletes after a heartbreaking loss.

The Wichita State Shockers went on an amazing run through the NCAA Tournament that ended in a close loss to top seeded Louisville on Saturday night.

After the game, head coach Gregg Marshall delivered a wonderfully heartfelt speech to his team.

Marshall thanked his players for the ride they took him on. He talked about holding their heads high with pride, not low in defeat. He mentioned obstacles faced and conquered. He spoke of achieving dreams on and off the court, with a basketball or a diploma.

With so much scandal and controversy surrounding the NCAA, Wichita State and their head coach stand as glowing bright spots.

Amid coaches throwing basketballs and gay slurs at players and colleges changing grades to allow star players to play in championship games, Marshall is certainly a breath of fresh air in a corrupt business.

He even took out a full page ad in a local newspaper thanking Shocker fans.

We’ve already seen Florida Gulf Coast’s Andy Enfield snag a higher profile job thanks to his team’s own Cinderella story. It’s hard to imagine that there is a coach in America hotter than Gregg Marshall after Wichita State’s success these past few weeks and the class that he showed along the way.
