Tianlang Guan is 14 years old and the youngest player to ever qualify for the Masters.

It was a nice story and one that would probably last only two days before the first cut, when he surely would be bounced from the tournament.

Not so fast.

In his first round, Guan shot a 73 (+1) and is very much in the hunt to make the cut.

The kid has a two-shot lead over last year’s Masters champ, Bubba Watson.

He shot the second-fewest putts in the first round and averaged 275 yards on his drives.

He trails Tiger Woods by three strokes.

He is doing this on golf’s biggest stage, far from his native China.

He finished up his round with a birdie on 18.

Not bad for a day’s work as a 14-year-old playing with golf’s best.

The “Will Tiger win?” talk could take a big hit if Guan keeps this up.
