Oahu Circuit Court security guards found themselves with an unusual babysitting gig Thursday after a Hawaii man attempted to enter the court with a suspicious bag.

Michael Hubbard placed the bag on the X-ray conveyor belt as he entered the building, when the guards noticed something in the bag was moving, reports Hawaii News Now.

After demanding Hubbard open the bag, he initially refused, but then said, “There’s a live duck in there!”

The security guards indeed found a duck, along with two 40-ounce bottles of beer. Weapons, illegal substances, live animals and alcohol are not allowed within the Oahu court building.

Hubbard first left the court building, refusing to give up the duck and booze, but then returned and checked his belongings at the door with security.

The duck remained calm and waited for his companion to finish his meeting, and the two left without incident.

“We have no way of knowing if Hubbard was drunk since no one was able to draw blood from him to test his blood alcohol content level. However, the deputies didn’t smell any alcohol on his breath,” Toni Schwartz, public information officer for the Department of Public Safety, told Hawaii News Now.
