In a press conference Monday afternoon, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis announced that there had been a third explosion at the JFK Library after the initial two along the marathon route.

“We are not certain that these incidents are related, but we are treating them as if they are,” he said. “We are recommending to people that they stay home.”

He would not give a definite number of dead or wounded, but he said there were “multiple causalities” at each site of the two explosions that took place at 2:50 p.m.

“We want to completely stabilize the situation,” he said.

Authorities have not found another device, but they have called all off-duty law officers in to investigate and secure the city.
