The White House issued a cautious public response to Monday’s explosions at the finish line of the Boston marathon.

“The President has been notified of the incident in Boston,” said a statement from a White House official.

“His administration is in contact with state and local authorities.  He directed his administration to provide whatever assistance is necessary in the investigation and response.”

Two people were killed and 23 were injured, according to the Boston police department.
