WASHINGTON — Trash cans near the Capitol are apparently being removed as a precautionary measure after the terrorist attack in Boston on Monday.
Outside the Cannon House office building on Tuesday, two metal outside trash cans were seen turned over and out of use. Other trash cans were similarly placed outside the Longworth House office building.
The U.S. Capitol Police said that they would be taking additional precautions following the attacks.
“At this juncture, we have no information linking the events to the Capitol Hill community,” the U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement on its website. “While there is no known connection to the Capitol Hill Complex, the USCP is being diligent in response to the events in Boston and taking additional practiced steps.”
At a press conference Tuesday, House Speaker John Boehner said the attacks at the Boston Marathon are a reminder of how “vulnerable” Americans still are to terrorism.
“We know we’re vulnerable,” he said. “It’s talked about almost every day. This is a reminder of just how vulnerable. … We really are in this era of what I’ll call modern warfare.”
