1.) The irony of Cruz for president — Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz has not been a shrinking violet during his short tenure in the Senate and his fiery brand of conservatism has attracted a passionate following from the conservative grassroots. TheDC’s Alex Pappas reports:
“With all of his activity, Cruz is developing a national fan base of conservatives. He keynotes national conservative confabs, like the Conservative Political Action Conference. He also comfortable taking the conservative message to the Sunday shows, once even battling New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer on ‘Meet the Press.’ His supporters argue he can help improve the Republican Party’s image with youthful vigor, humor and a positive message. He often speaks of what he calls ‘opportunity conservatism.'”
Some wonder if Cruz will take his uncompromising conservative brand and run for president in 2016. Ironically, it is likely that the segment of conservatives who most love what Cruz stands for contain the highest proportion of those who think Cruz is ineligible to run for president since he was born in Canada (even though his mother was American).
2.) Is it Miller time? — Joe Miller was once a tea party candidate for Senate and he may be one again sometime soon. TheDC’s Jamie Weinstein reports:
“‘The founders didn’t intend for the central government to have this degree of power,’ Miller told TheDC. ‘It is something that obviously in the wrong hands could be wielded in such a way that it absolutely would be tyranny in this country. … We need to take a stand against those things that are unconstitutional, that are contrary to what the founders have intended, and stop it.’ After mulling over his thoughts on the subject of whether America is living under tyranny, Miller changed his mind in a follow-up email to TheDC. America, he decided, is in fact living under tyranny, even if it is a soft tyranny. ‘[I]f the EPA’s systematic obstruction of the development of Alaska’s trillions of dollars worth of resources at a time when many Alaskans are unemployed or underemployed isn’t tyranny, you tell me what is?’ he wrote. ‘To be sure, it is a soft tyranny,’ he concluded, after listing other powers that the federal government has claimed which he believes are tyrannical. ‘But it is tyranny nonetheless.'”

3.) A Maher mash — Bill Maher stated the obvious Friday to a man who pretends he is a scholar. TheDC’s Jeff Poor reports:
“On HBO’s ‘Real Time’ on Friday night, host Bill Maher entertained CSU-San Bernardino professor Brian Levin, director of the Center for Study of Hate and Extremism, who maintained that despite the events in recent days, religious extremism isn’t only a product of Islam. But Maher took issue with that claim, calling it ‘liberal bullshit’ and said there was no comparison. ‘You know what, yeah, yeah,’ Maher said. ‘You know what — that’s liberal bullshit right there … they’re not as dangerous. I mean there’s only one faith, for example, that kills you or wants to kill you if you draw a bad cartoon of the prophet. There’s only one faith that kills you or wants to kill you if you renounce the faith. An ex-Muslim is a very dangerous thing. Talk to Salman Rushdie after the show about Christian versus Islam. So you know, I’m just saying let’s keep it real.'”
As Maher noted, if Broadway staged “The Book of Islam,” instead of The Book of Mormon,” there would have been a slightly different reaction. And by slight, TheDC Morning means gigantic. If you deny that reality, you belong at the kids’ table.
4.) In ‘This Happened’ news — Somewhere there is a police officer who should be fired. The Daily Caller News Foundation’ Robby Soave reports:
“Police arrested a West Virginia eighth-grader last week after he refused to remove the National Rifle Association t-shirt he wore to school. The t-shirt depicts a rifle with the statement ‘protect your right,’ according to Fox News. The student, Jared Marcum, was asked by a teacher to change his shirt. He refused, and was eventually suspended, arrested for obstructing the education process and jailed.”
