Former CIA director David Petraeus has accepted a teaching spot as a visiting professor at the City University of New York.
The four star general will teach public policy at the university’s Macauley Honors College starting next fall, The New York Times reported.
His course will examine “the developments that could position the United States — and our North American partners — to lead the world out of the current global economic slowdown,” according to an official statement.
Many universities were eager to land Petraeus, but CUNY won out because of its diverse student body, said Robert Barnett, the general’s lawyer.
CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein called the appointment “a unique opportunity to learn about public policy firsthand from a distinguished leader with extraordinary experience and expertise in international security issues, intelligence matters and nation-building.”
Petraeus is best known for commanding American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. He resigned his post as CIA director last November after his affair with the woman who wrote his biography came to light.
A soldier and a scholar, he previously earned a master’s degree at Princeton University and a fellowship at Georgetown University.
