The Democrats’ expensive, humiliating loss in SC is big trouble for, um… the Republicans?

Cameron Joseph at The Hill is trying to look on the bright side. Sure, a Republican who nobody ever thought could win has just handily defeated his opponent. But those dirty wingnuts are gonna regret it!

Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) is heading back to Congress — and that may not be good news for House GOP leadership.

Sanford owes party leaders nothing, as they refused to spend money on his campaign in the closing weeks and held him at arm’s length for much of the race.

He’s also a vocal — and stubborn — fiscal conservative, and will be sworn into the House at a time when GOP leaders are battling to control an unruly conference.

My goodness, that sounds terrible. Yes, I’m sure the House GOP leadership would much prefer if what’s-her-face, the one whose brother is on TV, if she had won instead. Yeah, those dumb Republicans are in for it now, brother.

And here’s how you know the GOP is really in trouble:

Earlier in the day, Boehner avoided saying Sanford’s name at all when asked if he’d be welcomed back.

Oooooooooohhh.

Hooray for the Democrats! You did it! 🙂
