A fan choked on a hot dog this weekend’s Reds-Cubs game at Wrigley Field.
The 28-year old Maureen Oleskiewicz, a junior high school teacher, collapsed into the row in front of her after losing consciousness while choking on the hot dog during the national anthem. She did not regain consciousness after being rushed to a hospital and died two days later. She reportedly did not have a pulse when help came at the stadium after her collapse.
Her brother said that nobody around her noticed her choking.
According to her mourning family, Oleskiewicz was an organ donor and her heart will be given to a 14-year old in need, something her family is taking some solace in.
“There is no magic wand to fix what we cannot comprehend,” said Kathleen Casey, the Superintendent of District 128 in Palos Heights, Ill. “Maureen had a positive impact on countless students, parents and colleagues. Her vibrant, positive outlook on life and her joyful nature will be missed more than words can convey.”
