A senior IRS official said in a press briefing Friday that he or she is “not very good at math,” according to a tweet from Washington Post reporter Zachary Goldfarb.
“The senior IRS official briefing the press just said: ‘I’m not good at math,'” Goldfarb tweeted.
The IRS came under fire Friday for admitting that it inappropriately targeted conservative and Tea Party nonprofit groups for additional reviews in 2012.
The IRS targeted groups with the terms “tea party” and “patriot” in their applications for tax-exempt status, according to IRS official Lois Lerner.
“That was wrong. That was absolutely incorrect, it was insensitive and it was inappropriate. That’s not how we go about selecting cases for further review,” Lerner said.
Approximately 75 conservative and Tea Party groups were subjected to increased scrutiny from the IRS, but none of the groups lost their tax-exempt status.
