Some celebrities will be worth far less as they walk down the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for the next two weeks.

About $1.4 million worth of jewelry that was meant to be worn by Hollywood’s elite was reportedly stolen from a Chopard employee’s hotel room safe at the Suite Novotel Cannes Centre Thursday in Cannes, France.

Thieves allegedly ripped the safe off the wall and walked away with everything in it — about $1.4 million in fancy jewelry, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Police believe that the heist could have been an inside job, and authorities are questioning hotel employees. The Chopard employee was an American.

USA today notes that in 2009, an armed robber stole $8 million worth of jewelry from the Chopard boutique in Cannes.

A slew of A-list celebrities are in Cannes this week for the annual film festival, where Chopard is an official sponsor. Julianne Moore, Cindy Crawford and model Cara Delevingne were photographed wearing Chopard on the red carpet earlier this week.
