Glove me two times – Diamondbacks pitcher, catcher combine on a catch

It usually just takes one player to catch a popped-up bunt in baseball.

But isn’t two better than one?

The pitcher-catcher tandem of Arizona’s Josh Collmenter and Miguel Montero sure thought so.

In yesterday’s Diamondbacks-Marlins game, Montero sprang from his crouched stance to snag a badly popped-up bunt by Miami shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria. It didn’t end so well for Montero, but the D’backs got the out anyway thanks to a fluky play.

The catcher ended up bouncing the ball out of his glove and into the hands of pitcher Josh Collmenter who was charging the ball from the pitcher’s mound. Collmenter then bobbled the ball himself before ending up with it in his bare pitching hand.

Not how they taught it in spring training, but an out’s an out.
