A newborn baby boy is safe after being rescued from a toilet pipe in a Jinhua, China apartment building.

ABC News reports residents called firefighters to the scene when they heard the infant’s cries. After efforts to pull the 5-pound child from the toilet failed, rescuers sawed off a large section of the pipe and rushed him to a nearby hospital. The video below shows firefighters and doctors taking apart the pipe piece by piece, revealing the newborn inside. The baby’s umbilical cord and placenta were still attached.

Agence France Presse, quoting an official report, says the baby spent an estimated two hours lodged in the pipe.

Authorities are treating the incident as attempted homicide. This is the second recent report of this kind in China, after a separate newborn was discovered in a dumpster in the Hebei province. That infant later died.
