Terry Francona pauses argument with ump for ‘God Bless America’

Cleveland Indians skipper Terry Francona was back in Boston over Memorial Day Weekend for the first time since his days as Red Sox manager ended two seasons ago.

The reunion featured some payback, with an Indians victory in the first of the four game series, a jovial wrestling match with the Boston play by play man, and an interesting moment while arguing with an umpire in Sunday’s series finale.

When he went out to argue with umpire Tom Hallion after Cleveland outfielder Michael Bourn was called out trying to steal a base, Francona put the argument on hold while Fenway Park belted out a rendition of God Bless America.

The manager took off his hat and, according to his account of the exchange, told Hallion “I came out here to yell at you and now I’ve got to honor America with you.”

Well, that’s one way to end an argument.
