1.) Ted Olson for special prosecutor — Someone went to the White House … a lot. TheDC’s Vince Coglianese reports:

“Publicly released records show that embattled former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman visited the White House at least 157 times during the Obama administration, more recorded visits than even the most trusted members of the president’s Cabinet. … By contrast, Shulman’s predecessor Mark Everson only visited the White House once during four years of service in the George W. Bush administration and compared the IRS’s remoteness from the president to ‘Siberia.’  …An analysis by The Daily Caller of the White House’s public ‘visitor access records’ showed that every current and former member of President Obama’s Cabinet would have had to rack up at least 60 more public visits to the president’s home to catch up with ‘Douglas Shulman.’ The visitor logs do not give a complete picture of White House access.”

The Wall Street Journal may not think a special prosecutor is necessary, but TheDC Morning does, at least sooner or later. While Eric Holder gets to choose the special prosecutor, public pressure will hopefully force his hand to appoint someone respected by all sides (that is, if he is forced to appoint a special prosecutor at all). How about Ted Olson, the respected Bush-era solicitor general who has recently drawn rave reviews from liberals for leading the legal fight for gay marriage? Yes, he has argued against special prosecutors in the past, but so what? He would be a solid choice.

2.) Rothbard’s Wrestler — A wrestler considers a political career. TheDC’s Will Rahn reports:

“Glenn Jacobs, the seven-foot-tall professional wrestler better known as Kane, just might be the next Republican senator from Tennessee. The former WWE world champion (and uncompensated Daily Caller columnist) is already being touted by Tennessee tea-party groups as the man who can beat moderate GOP Sen. Lamar Alexander in 2014. … Jacobs insists he has “no plans to run at this point.” But, at the same time, he is not prepared to rule it out. … Jacobs says he’s always been interested in politics, but it wasn’t until around 2004 that he began reading economists of the libertarian “Austrian school” such as Friedrich Hayek, Ludwig von Mises and Murray Rothbard. He calls Henry Hazlitt’s Economics in One Lesson “one of the best books anyone can read,” and also cites von Mises’Human Action and Rothbard’s Man, Economy, and State as personal favorites. And after listening to Jacobs talk for a while, it becomes apparent that, somewhere along the way, this leather mask-wearing pro-wrestler, who is famous for performing something called a ‘chokeslam’ on his opponents, became a full-blown libertarian nerd.”

3.) Larry King Alive — Larry King’s career has taken a sad turn. TheDC’s Jamie Weinstein reports:

“Larry King is not only still alive, he’s heading back to live television. The iconic 79-year-old American broadcaster is joining the Russian-funded propaganda network RT America two and a half years after he was gently pushed out at CNN after a quarter century at the network. Since then, he has been producing a TV show in his basement that appears online at Hulu.com. The show is produced through Ora TV — a production company he founded with the world’s second richest man, Mexican business tycoon Carlos Slim. RT will carry King’s online program, ‘Larry King Now,’ as well as a new program, ‘Politics with Larry King.'”

Oh, how the mighty have fallen … into the hands of Vladimir Putin.

4.) Steele for governor? — Michael Steele may be making a political comeback.  TheDC’s Alex Pappas reports:

“Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele says he is considering running for governor of Maryland next year. During a radio interview Wednesday, Steele was asked if he might run for the office. ‘I’m looking at it,’ Steele said on WMAL. ‘We’ll see what the numbers tell us.'”
