Bedford: What does The New Republic know about anything?

So we all know that most liberals don’t know the first thing about guns, but we did kind of assume that most of them have an idea about graphic design.

But what happens when those two subjects collide?

Check out The New Republic’s  smartest latest cover:

What is that blue thing up there on the right — the one that kind of looks like a faded Rebel Alliance logo? Because it sure doesn’t look like the National Rifle Association’s logo:

The National Rifle Association' logo.

The National Rifle Association’ logo.

But it does look like one NRA’s logo:

The National Recovery Administration's logo.

The National Recovery Administration’s logo.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is the logo for the National Recovery Agency — a pillar of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal. Founded in 1933 to promote “codes of fair competition,” it was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 1935.

So does this graphic designer know as much about design as he knows about guns, or is it just artistic license? We’ll let the readers make that call.
