If gun-free zones are so safe, why isn’t the White House one?

Hey, remember that petition, on the White House’s official petition website, to disband the Secret Service because guns are evil and bad?

Eliminate armed guards for the President, Vice-President, and their families, and establish Gun Free Zones around them

Gun Free Zones are supposed to protect our children, and some politicians wish to strip us of our right to keep and bear arms. Those same politicians and their families are currently under the protection of armed Secret Service agents. If Gun Free Zones are sufficient protection for our children, then Gun Free Zones should be good enough for politicians.

If more guns = more crime, why is the First Family surrounded by them at all times? Think of the children.

For some reason, the following story reminded me of that. Robby Soave reports:

In the wake of the mass shooting that culminated at Santa Monica College in California, administrators defended the college’s strict no guns policy, despite criticism from those who say that so-called “gun free zones” don’t prevent crime.

On Friday, 23-year-old John Zawahri shot and killed his father and brother. He then forced a woman to drive him to the campus of Santa Monica College, where he killed three more people…

Both college policy and California law forbid anyone other than law enforcement officials from bringing guns on campus. A college spokesman says the school is determined to maintain its ban on firearms, while the school’s president argues that the rampage was not technically a school shooting…

John Lott, an economist and author of the book “More Guns, Less Crime,” has written that mass shooters actively seek out gun free zones, knowing that they are less likely to encounter armed resistance, since bystanders won’t have weapons.

Gun-free zones are the safest places in America. A person doesn’t have to worry about getting shot while he’s shooting people.

Six months later, the White House still hasn’t responded to the petition to keep everyone in that building safe by getting rid of all those guns. And they never will respond to it. There’s no way they can, because they know gun-free zones don’t work. They can’t even acknowledge the question, because there’s no answer that doesn’t invalidate their entire argument.

And before you bring it up: Yes, they’ve raised the required number of signatures from 25,000 to 100,000, but they specifically said existing petitions would be grandfathered in. This was an existing petition. Hey, I’m glad the Obama administration gave us yet another example of how they ignore any rule that doesn’t suit them, including the rules they make for themselves. They do it every single day, with every single thing. And then they lie about it.

Thus: #Scandalanche.
