Top 10: Worst superhero movies of all time [SLIDESHOW]

“Man of Steel,” the latest film reboot of the Superman comic, was released on Friday and it might just be the most exciting release of the summer.

Although there are high hopes for Zach Snyder’s latest film, many superhero movies in the past have been major letdowns. Here are 10 superhero movies that should have been scrapped from day one.

  • "Fantastic Four," both the original and sequel. We wanted to like these movies. We really did. But we just can't take a movie seriously that has one of its main characters yelling "Flame on!" every ten minutes.
  • "Hulk" -- the Eric Bana version not Edward Norton. Can't say we really know what happened in this movie because we fell asleep halfway through it. We can only assume there's a lot of smashing and grunting.
  • "Catwoman." Even Halle Berry's catsuit couldn't save this god-awful movie.
  • "Daredevil." Ben Affleck plays a blind lawyer who whacks his enemies with a stick. Enough said.
  • "Elektra." The best part about this "Daredevil" spin-off was the Evanescence soundtrack. And Jennifer Garner in a tight suit.
  • "Blade." Well, at least it this vampire movie was better than "Twilight."
  • "Spawn." Apparently Satan's brother was a superhero. Who knew?
  • "The Phantom." B-list actor Billy Zane put his name on the map by playing a seemingly gender-confused Green Latern. The slogan "Slam Evil!" doesn't really help his case.
  • "Steel." No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Shaquille O'Neal, known for his groundbreaking role as a rapping genie in "Kazaam," hit his sophomore slump with a movie about a second-rate Iron Man who fights weapons dealers.
  • "Supergirl." Rumors circled in 2009 that Taylor Swift was in talks to do a reboot of this sad excuse of a superhero movie. We're thankful she stuck to writing songs about her dysfunctional love life.
