Even if you have never seen an episode of HBO’s most lauded series, “The Sopranos,” you no doubt have heard of Tony Soprano, the conflicted mobster played by James Gandolfini.
Gandolfini died Wednesday while on vacation in Italy, an almost cinematic end to his life and career, where he often played mobsters — or at the very least a very bad guy.
Besides playing Tony for six seasons, Gandolfini was also a presence in film. From mafia movies “Get Shorty” and “True Romance” to “The Man Who Wasn’t There” and “In The Loop,” to voicing a character in the kids’ classic “Where the Wild Things Are,” and finally, to his character in one his of last great movies, the underrated “Killing Them Softly,” Gandolfini’s career is marked by nothing but greatness.
