On Tuesday, CNN officially announced it was bringing back its long-running political debate show “Crossfire.”
Former Obama campaign aide Stephanie Cutter, former White House green jobs czar Van Jones, MSNBC “The Cycle” panelist S.E. Cupp and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will be the hosts of the resurrected show.
“Few programs in the history of CNN have had the kind of impact on political discourse that Crossfire did – it was a terrific program then, and we believe the time is right to bring it back and do it again,” Jeff Zucker, president of CNN Worldwide, said in a statement. “We look forward to the opportunity to host passionate conversation from all sides of the political spectrum. Crossfire will be the forum where America holds its great debates.”
“Crossfire” first debuted on CNN in 1982 and was a mainstay on the network until June 2005 and it has featured the likes of Robert Novak, Tucker Carlson, John Sununu, Pat Buchanan and Mary Matalin on the right and Tom Braden, Michael Kinsley, Bill Press, Paul Begala and James Carville on the left.
