Two employees at the University of Washington earned overtime pay while browsing the web for sports news and pictures of the Kardashian women in bikinis, according to an official report.
The State Executive Ethics Board reviewed the browser histories of two employees, Stan Ross and Don Hulse, and found that they frequented sports news sites and celebrity gossip pages while at work. Both men received tens of thousands of extra dollars each of the last few years from working overtime hours — many of which were actually spent looking at pictures of Khloe Kardashian and up-and-coming teen stars.
“I didn’t think it was going to be as bad as what I actually saw,” said Don Stephens, Ross and Hulse’s boss, who first alerted authorities to his employees’ inappropriate internet use, in a statement. “I tend to believe that if I screwed around for four hours of my eight hour day, I would be in trouble.”
The ethics board agreed.
“So it seemed to me that it was an inappropriate use of overtime if they were getting paid to surf the Internet,” said Melanie Deleon, the director of the ethics board, in a statement.
The university won’t pursue disciplinary action until the two men decide whether they wish to fight the charges. A decision is expected to be reached later this month.
