New York Democratic voters are ready for Anthony Weiner to call it quits.

Weiner is staying in the New York mayor’s race in the face of new admissions that he had an online tryst, complete with pictures, with a young woman the year following his resignation.

A Quinnipiac poll released Monday found that 53 percent of likely Democratic primary voters think it is time for the former congressman to pull out of the race. Just 40 percent believe he should stay in.

The new revelations seem to have convinced New York Democrats that the subject is relevant to Weiner’s candidacy. In Quinnipiac’s poll from last Wednesday, July 24, conducted largely before the latest sexting revelations, 50 percent of New York voters said the crotch shots were a legitimate issue in the election, and 49 percent said it was not a legitimate issue.

Last Tuesday, allegations from another woman that Weiner had sexted with her were published. Last Thursday, Weiner confessed to the affair, admitting that it had happened a year after he resigned.

Quinnipiac’s poll released this Monday found 65 percent of likely Democratic primary voters saying it was a legitimate issue, and just 34 percent saying it was not.

A growing number of primary voters say the behavior disqualifies Weiner from being mayor, 40 percent, up from 23 percent last week.

Weiner’s poll numbers on a sample primary ballot are down to 16 percent, plummeting from 26 percent last week, dropping him from first to fourth place, behind House Speaker Christine Quinn, Bill de Blasio and Bill Thompson.

The poll surveyed 446 likely Democratic primary voters from July 24-28. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.6 percentage points.
