Dallas Cowboys’ safety Barry Church missed practice Monday after undergoing emergency root canal surgery.

Church, who chipped his tooth last week after biting into a red Jolly Rancher, complained of excruciating pain and was rushed to the dentist early Monday morning. The four-year player returned to practice Tuesday.

Though this was certainly one of Church’s most embarrassing trips to the sideline, he’s no stranger to injury. Last season, the Cowboy sat out 13 games with a torn Achilles tendon.

Church is committed to serious rehab once his tooth heals up. As soon as he can eat candy again, Church said he’ll “stick to the soft stuff.”
