Same-sex marriage became legal in Minnesota Thursday, making Minnesota Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison so happy he grabbed a guitar and made a celebratory YouTube video.

Ellison sang “This Land is Your Land” while strumming the guitar and stopped off to deliver a message about the importance of gay marriage.

“Marry who you want, marry who you love,” Ellison says in the video, explaining that gay marriage is legal “because people got involved, people got active, because people did not sit back and wait for something to happen, nor did they cry about bad things that were happening.”

“They got involved, they got engaged, they made a compelling case to the Minnesota people and the Minnesota people said ‘Do your thing,’” Ellison added. “And so you go do it, you go be happy, you go marry who you love, you go live your life for liberty and justice for all. Because guess what, this land is your land and this land is my land.”

Rhode Island and Minnesota Thursday became the 12th and 13th states in the nation to allow same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage is also legal in Washington, D.C.
