Scientists: Keystone XL won’t cause more global warming

In fact, fully developing the Albertan tar sands would only raise the average global temperature by 0.3 degrees Celsius, according to research by climate scientist Andrew Weaver.

Weaver was elected to Canada’s parliament as a member of the Green Party earlier this year after spending time as a climate scientist at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. However, even with green backing Weaver refuses to voice his opinion on whether or not Keystone should be built, saying it’s a decision for the U.S.

“I think it’s mad that we are burning all of our oil,” Weaver says, “but we’ve got to put it into perspective.”
