Texas Democratic State Sen.Wendy Davis delayed plans to make an announcement about her future political to care for her sick father, the Texas Tribune reports.
“I had hoped to make public my decision about that next week, but with everything that’s going on with my dad, I won’t be doing that,” Davis said on Wednesday. “It’s likely it will be late September before I do.”
Davis’ father Jerry Russell is currently in critical condition following complications from abdominal surgery.
Davis entered the national spotlight earlier this summer when she staged a 13-hour filibuster to temporarily block an abortion-restricting bill in the State Senate, and recently said she may run for re-election or take a shot at the governor’s race.
Talking Points Memo noted Thursday that Democrats in Texas have already started looking for candidates to run on a 2014 ticket with Davis and have approached at least five politicians to date.
