The confirmation comes after multiple news organizations reported that Alexis is the 34-year-old  suspected deceased gunman.

Reuters cited three federal law enforcement sources in reporting Alexis’ name. NBC News cited officials saying Alexis is from Fort Worth, Texas and is a civilian contractor. USA Today and CBS News also reported that Alexis is the suspect in the shooting.

The website JustMugShots.com lists a mugshot for a Fort Worth, Texas man named Aaron Alexis who fits the description of the suspect. The mugshot is for a 2010 gun charge.

A man named Aaron Alexis was arrested in September 2010 for illegally discharging a firearm, according to the website. That website lists Alexis’ age in 2010 as 31 — meaning he would be 34 today.

Early reports after the Navy Yard shooting the said the suspect was a bald black man, which matches the mug shot from a 2010 arrest for a firearm charge.
