News that the Cleveland Browns had traded running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2014 first-round draft pick shocked many people, including one person in particular.

Richardson told ABC Newsnet 5 that he heard the news at the same time everyone else did.

“One of my friends called me he was like, ‘You got traded,'” the former Alabama running back said. “I was like, ‘Man, shut up talking to me get off my phone.’ I turned on the radio and all of a sudden I heard Cleveland Browns running back has been traded.”

“It just hit me in my face,” he said. “I didn’t see it coming.”

Richardson was drafted third overall by the Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft and was previously a focal point for the team’s rebuilding effort. But with the Browns looking to the future to turn things around, trading Richardson became the best possible option for the team to secure a top-tier quarterback in the 2014 Draft.

Though Richardson was expendable for the Browns, you think they would have at least the decency to give their young running back the news before the radio found out.

The trade hit Trent Richardson in a similar fashion to how he crushed the Eagles’ Kurt Coleman last season.
