Who is Chris Christie speaking to in his TV ads? New Jersey? Republican primary voters? National swing voters?
Let’s watch a few and see… This first one is called “Bipartisan”:
The second is called “Compassion”:
And the last is titled “Un Mejor Futuro, Mas Brillante”:
Christie’s ads, one presumes, are primarily targeted toward New Jersey voters. But the odds are these same messages would play very well with national swing voters. And because he’s leading by such a wide margin, Christie might be trying to kill two birds with one stone.
His challenge in 2016 will be winning Republican primary voters without going so far as to undermine his current messaging. Mitt Romney couldn’t thread that needle. But for reasons I recently discussed, Chris Christie might be uniquely poised to do so.
