If the government can’t mow the lawn, no one can!

Chris Cox is the sole member of the Memorial Militia. The group is dedicated to keeping the National Mall presentable during the government shutdown. Today he was seen mowing around the Lincoln Memorial, reports CBSDC.

“If they shut down our memorials, we’re still going to take the trash out, we’re going to clean the windows, we’re going to cut the grass, we’re going to pull the weeds, we’re going to do the tree work,” Cox told All News 99.1.

He walked around the National Mall with an old-fashioned push lawn mower and a South Carolina flag slung over his shoulder.

Cox mows for the veterans. The Million Vet March is scheduled to take place this Sunday and Cox says cleaning up for former service members is the right thing to do, and hopes that others will join his Memorial Militia.

“There’s a lot of preparation to get ready for them and there’s nobody here representing the government,” said Cox.

Cox was in the midst of his cleanup when authorities asked him to stop. Now, his work remains unfinished.
