Football legend Joe Theismann says that the Washington Redskins should keep the team name.

He told a TMZ reporter Monday afternoon that he “was very proud to wear the Redskin uniform.”

Theismann won a Super Bowl with the Redskins during his tenure as quarterback from 1974 to 1985.

He said that after winning the Super Bowl, he was given an authentic American Indian headdress, although could not recall which tribe gave it to him.

He said President Obama is entitled to his opinion, however he was personally happy to have represented “the Native American nations of this country as proudly as we could with such great honor.”
