On Monday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, Democratic strategist James Carville joked that, given the country’s economic woes, President Obama might as well “take a toke” on a crack pipe.

Carville made the remark after host Joe Scarborough said that Obama’s approval numbers were ailing despite some economic growth.

SCARBOROUGH: What’s going on here, James? You got like, the economy is growing at 2.5 percent, 3 percent. Not anemic. We got some problems out there. But, like, the economy, 31 percent approve; 65 percent disapprove. This is something bigger going on. What is it?
CARVILLE: What’s been going on for a long time — the economy is not growing for a lot of people. By the way, it hasn’t been growing for a lot of people since the ’70s. So, it’s sort of catching up and then you’re looking at dysfunction. I think the best thing he can do is take a toke on the mayor of Toronto’s crack pipe because his numbers are about 48 percent.
