“Think” “Progress” on guns: Lying, lazy, or both?

Font Size:

Today is Veteran’s Day, so it’s a perfect opportunity to lie about people who are exercising the rights our men and women in uniform protect every day.

Here’s a very disturbing story from “Think” “Progress”:

On Saturday, nearly 40 armed men, women, and children waited outside a Dallas, Texas area restaurant to protest a membership meeting for the state chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a gun safety advocacy group formed in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

This is an outrage! Those guys are clearly intimidating those poor moms, brandishing their evil, penile-substitute weapons like the drooling, murderous rednecks they are. They’re waiting in ambush!

Just one problem with that narrative, as Charles C. W. Cooke at NRO discovered:

As one might expect, none of this is quite true. For a start, the picture above is deeply misleading. As one Twitter user showed me, the group was, in fact, posing for a picture. (UPDATE: This Facebook page suggests that it was Moms Demand Action that took both pictures!)

Moms Demand Action? More like Moms Demand Propaganda.

Openly carrying long guns is legal in Texas, by the way. You can argue whether or not it’s a good idea, but it’s not illegal and it’s not intimidation. Just because you’re scared doesn’t mean somebody is trying to scare you.

Did “Think” “Progress” find this too good to check, or did they purposely post a misleading photo in order to paint people in the worst light possible for exercising their Constitutional rights?

You make the call.
