Teacher told to stop writing on kids’ foreheads when they forget stuff

If you are of a certain age, you may vaguely remember your elementary school teachers sending you home with really important messages affixed to your clothing with a safety pin.

That practice seems to have disappeared sometime during the Carter administration. However, a father in Houston, Texas says his kid’s second-grade teacher is bringing it back—on lots and lots of steroids.

Victor Jimenez is the father. He has accused the unidentified teacher at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School of using a marker to scrawl reminders on students’ faces if they forget something, reports Houston NBC affiliate KPRC.

According to Jimenez, his eight-year-old son recently showed up at home with a huge letter “B” written smack in the center of his forehead. Speaking in Spanish, Jimenez told KPRC his son’s mistake was failing to finish his homework.

“For me, he does not have any professionalism or ethics at all,” Jimenez said. “I do not understand how he can continue being a teacher.”

It’s not clear what the letter “B” stands for exactly.

The furious father said his son isn’t the only student to receive a forehead message. He claims the same teacher has written on several other kids.

“They have also been marked on their arms,” said Jimenez. “He has a list of the kids involved.”

In a statement, a representative from the Houston Independent School District implicitly confirmed Jimenez’s story and said the practice won’t occur any more.

“Administrators launched an investigation and met with the teacher, who confirmed the report,” the statement reads. “The situation is being handled as a personnel matter, and the teacher has been directed to cease the practice.”
