As part of its goal to engage with all Americans, the House Republican Conference is set to welcome over 150 Indian Americans to the Capitol for the caucus’ first “Indian American Meetup,” Tuesday.

According to the GOP conference, the meet-up is part of a series intended to bring different constituencies into the fold to meet with Republican lawmakers.

Past meet-ups have included Hispanic pastors, women in technology, Korean Americans, Vietnamese Americans and Filipinos.

Tuesday’s meet up is scheduled to feature comments from House Republican leadership, members of Congress and prominent Indian Americans, and is set to be followed by roundtable discussions on topics ranging from jobs to foreign affairs.

“House Republicans are excited for an opportunity to engage in a productive dialogue about the issues most important to the Indian-American community,” House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers said in a statement.

“The Indian-American Meetup is a unique opportunity for us to hear the ideas and concerns from Indian Americans across the nation,” she added. “This is an event in which House Republicans can discuss our ideas of how to achieve a future rich in jobs, economic stability and greater opportunity for all Americans.”

In a video to be played at the “meetup” and obtained by The Daily Caller, South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley encourages Indian Americans to get involved in the political system.

“Now it’s time for us to step up in the world of politics,” Haley says in the video, going on to praise Indian Americans as the minority with the most education, per capita income, philanthropic activity, and least reliance on public assistance.

“It is only right that we now step up in the political process, whether it is just to be involved, whether it’s to represent and run for office, or whether it’s to get involved in issues. I hope that you will take this opportunity and really make it mean something,” she says.
