Martin Bashir is still in deep Bashir

If he thought his apology for his fecal fantasies about Sarah Palin was going to be the end of $#!+gate, he just dung get it.

David Bauder, AP:

MSNBC was not saying Tuesday whether disciplinary action is planned against show host Martin Bashir, who has apologized for “deeply offensive” comments he made about Sarah Palin…

An MSNBC spokeswoman did not immediately respond to questions Tuesday about whether any further action was being contemplated against Bashir.

The story here isn’t that our moral, ethical, and intellectual betters at MSNBC are stonewalling. Of course they are. The story is that they’re being forced to.

I have to admit, I’m surprised. I figured this was a one-day story. But apparently, enough people are ticked off about what he said — even though he said it about Palin — that even his ideological colleagues are asking why he isn’t being punished. It was so repugnant that it’s making them think twice. Usually, they don’t even think once.

I still doubt he’ll be punished. That would mean imposing some kind of standard at MSNBC about what’s too disgusting and insane to say about conservatives. Being forced to debase himself before the hated Sarah Palin will be seen as sufficient humiliation. But at least there’s been some follow-up on this.
