What started at Yale has now infiltrated the United States Senate and people close to the White House.

The term “climate thanks” is being used as a new variation on “thank you” in the liberal community, the Daily Caller has learned.

As President Obama reportedly tries for a second-term “climate” legacy that he can accomplish by executive action through EPA regulations, his supporters in progressive America will be thanking him in most obnoxious fashion. (RELATED: Obama’s new climate council to regulate economy)

“I’m giving #ClimateThanks to the people of #RI who continue to take action on climate change,” Democratic Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse tweeted on Thanksgiving. “And of course, a big #ClimateThanks to all the activists who refuse to let Congress ignore climate change.”

Hey, Sheldon, climate thanks to you too, buddy. That’s a totally appropriate thing to say to people on America’s holiday of Thanksgiving.

Sadly, Senator Whitehouse (literally his name), who gives a little speech once per week on climate change on the Senate floor, didn’t invent the term.

The Obama advocacy group Organizing for Action, which was assembled from the remnants of Obama’s re-election campaign in order to fight for his second-term agenda, tweeted out some “Climate Thanks” on November 25, the day of an Obama fundraiser in San Francisco that was met by climate-change activists organized in part by the Sierra Club.

But the etymology of the term can be traced back to Yale.

The Yale Project on Climate Change Communication announced the launch of the #ClimateThanks hashtag this Thanksgiving for reasons like “awareness” and “solidarity” within the “climate community.” (The Project also partners with the Gallup poll, which finds Americans are straight-up concerned about global warming, guys.)

So if you were just thinking that liberals needed a new way to congratulate themselves, here you go. Climate thanks.
