MSNBC anchor Mika Brzezinski isn’t much of a college sports fan.

The co-host of “Morning Joe” mocked Robert Gibbs for his choice of wardrobe Monday morning. “Oh my God, that is the ugliest shirt,” she said, telling President Barack Obama’s former press secretary he “looks like a disturbed person that may touch me inappropriately.”

“So this is what happens when poor white trash wins the lottery,” co-host Joe Scarborough cracked.

Gibbs grew up in Auburn, Alabama, the sight of an unlikely win Saturday by the Auburn University football team against Alabama University. Gibbs represented his hometown in a gaudy orange T-shirt emblazoned with the school’s emblem, and remained unfazed by Brezezinski’s needling.

“Mika, I gotta tell you,” he said, “there is nothing you can say about my shirt that is even remotely concerning to me.”

Saturday’s game was complete with an explosive finish, after Auburn’s Chris Davis returned a last-minute field goal attempt for a game-winning touchdown.

Gibbs, who attended the game Saturday with his son, was still caught up in the excitement: “I told [my son] afterwards, ‘We spent so much money on these tickets because I wanted you to think in 20 or 30 years that you were at that game and it all came true.'”
