Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had some choice words for fellow Nevadan Rep. Joe Heck, a Republican who might challenge him in 2016, calling him “a lightweight” and dismissing him as a less viable candidate than Sharron Angle.

“Joe Heck, compared to the people I’ve run against over the years, is a lightweight,” said Reid in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Let him run. He’s a lightweight compared to all of them.”

Reid went on to compare Heck to Sharron Angle, who Reid bested in 2010 in spite of poor approval ratings, and who is viewed by many in the GOP in the same light as Delaware’s Christine O’Donnell: a poor choice of candidate who resulted in a missed opportunity.

“How about Sharron Angle?” Reid went on. “He’s a lightweight compared to her. Let him run.”

The Senate Majority Leader attacked Heck earlier this week on immigration, charging him with being “hypocritical” on Nevada News3 for saying he supports immigration reform, but not doing enough in support of it.

“Congressman Heck is focused on solutions, not politics right now. He’s focused on doing the job he was elected to do,” Heck spokesman Greg told the Review-Journal.
