UnknownPolitico Chief White House Correspondent and Playbook writer Mike Allen is not afraid to go on TV under any circumstances. He can have a thick white bandage over his nose, as he did in 2010 as the result of a hunting incident with the boys, Politico Editor-in-Chief John Harris and President and CEO Jim VandeHei. Or a big black martian boot on his left leg.

The latter was the case this morning as the MSNBC “Morning Joe” crew pressed Allen extensively about the boot on his leg. Allen appeared to be in good spirits and no pain as he explained what happened to him.

He was box jumping and broke a bone in his ankle.

Allen explained he was working out with his trainer when the accident occurred. At one point he even propped the boot up for viewers to see. “I should’ve been safe,” he said. “[It was] a Tigger move jump on a box.”

The reporter definitely sees the glass half full. He sunnily says this is among the best kinds of injuries one can have — no sling, no cast. “If you’re going to get hurt this is about the best thing that could happen,” he said, noting that he has to wear the boot for weeks, not months.

“I will not be back on the box,” he said. “I’ll be on the treadmill.”
