Despite the Washington, D.C. metro area being covered in snow on Tuesday, the White House’s Task Force on Climate Preparedness held its first meeting to discuss strategies for adapting to global warming.

According to a tweet from Democratic Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, President Obama’s task force still met as scheduled despite temperatures in the low 30s this morning and lots of snow. According to the Weather Channel the D.C. area has gotten an estimated 2.1 inches of snowfall in the last 24 hours.

Obama’s climate task force was established through executive order in November as part of the president’s plan to tackle global warming using his executive authority.

The task force was established to advise the Obama administration “on how the Federal Government can respond to the needs of communities nationwide that are dealing with the impacts of climate change,” according to the White House.

Inslee is one of eight governors asked to sit on the task force, only one of which is a Republican — Eddie Calvo who is the Governor of the U.S. territory of Guam.

The task force also includes representatives from local governments across the country, including Knoxville, Tennessee Mayor Madeline Rogero, a Democrat.
