Why do people hate journalists?
Well, for a lot of reasons. But this week Washington Post opinion writer Jonathan Capehart cites the ridiculous Obama selfie scandal from Nelson Mandela‘s memorial service as a latest reason why people may hate journalists. Surprisingly, Capehart doesn’t jump on the pseudo race angle as MSNBC guests did Wednesday and claim that the picture depicts first lady Michelle Obama as an angry black woman.
“Selfie-gate is one of those nontroversies that makes me see why people hate my profession,” he writes. “… As with most nontroversies, there is no there there.”
He also cites the photographer, Robert Schmidt, explaining what really happened in that selfie moment. “Schmidt said one more thing that I agree with 100 percent. “[I]t makes me a little sad we are so obsessed with day-to-day trivialities,” he wrote, “instead of things of true importance.”
